Developer Terms
Last updated: October 5, 2026
1. Who these terms are for
These terms apply to you when you create an agent on Wire. An agent is an app that a Wire user can connect to their container. Creating an agent means you agree to these terms, in addition to the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy.
If you create an agent on behalf of a company, you agree on that company's behalf.
2. What a user shares with your agent
A user decides what your agent may do before it connects. Wire shows them what your agent asks for, and they approve it or decline. Your agent receives only what they approved.
Two kinds of data can reach you:
- Identity data: a user's name, picture, and email address, when your agent asks for them and the user agrees.
- Container data: what your agent reads from, or writes to, the user's container through the tools they approved.
3. Use identity data only to provide your app
You may use a user's name and email address to run the app they connected: to show them who they are signed in as, to keep their account, and to send them messages about the app that they would expect to receive. You may not use it for anything else.
4. Do not sell or share it
You may not sell a user's identity data or container data, and you may not share it with anyone else. The one exception is a service provider that processes it for you, under your instructions, to run your app, and that is bound to protect it at least as well as these terms require.
You may not use it to build advertising profiles, and you may not combine it with data from other sources to identify or track a user.
5. Keep it secure
You are responsible for the data once it reaches you. Protect it in transit and where you store it, limit who on your team can reach it, and keep the credentials Wire issues to your agent secret. If you learn that a user's data was exposed, tell us at privacy@usewire.io without delay, and tell the affected users where the law requires it.
6. Delete a user's data when they leave
When a user uninstalls your agent, or deletes their Wire account, delete the data you hold about them that came from Wire. Wire tells your agent when either happens, through the same install notifications it already sends, so you do not need to poll for it.
You may keep what the law requires you to keep, for as long as it requires and for that purpose only.
7. Publish a privacy policy
Your agent must have a privacy policy that a user can read before they connect. It must say what you collect, why, who processes it for you, how long you keep it, and how a user can ask you to delete it. An agent that asks for identity data states the address of that policy, and Wire shows it to the user on the screen where they approve the connection.
What your policy says must be true of what your agent does.
8. If these terms are not kept
We may suspend or remove an agent that does not keep these terms, and we may tell its users why. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.
